LESSON 1 Flight Attendant Job - OverviewFlight AttendantJob demands the airline employee to be responsible for safety and personal comfort of passengers traveling with an airline they work for. Duties in a typical FlightAttendant job is regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), however the same may vary slightly from airline to airline depending on the typeofaircraft flown by them. Each individual undergoing training for flightattendantjob are trained in emergency evacuation procedures, crewcoordination activities, securityprocedures and firstaid, they are also briefed on weather and flying time by captain of the flight before the journey. There job demands them to check passenger safety devices and to oversee that the aircraft is well stocked with supplies. Flight attendants welcomepassengers while boarding, check the tickets, direct them to the seats, and assist them with their coats and luggage. Flight Attendants during the course of their job also briefs the passengers safetyprocedures before takeoff. While at cruiselevel, the attendants ensure that passenger seat safety belts are fastened whenever required; serve drinks, light refreshments, or precooked meals; distribute materials for reading; and answer general queries of passengers'. Very important but often forgotten part in the job of flight attendants is to assist passengers during emergencies, which includes reassuring passengers to opening doors and inflating emergency slides for evacuation. They are also trained to provide first aid. Airlines generally operate a flight with one to ten flight attendants which also depend on the fleetofplanes operated by the airline. A typical Boeing 747 can have as many as twelve to sixteen flight attendants. The turnover of flightattendantjob which used to be traditionally very high has shown a decline in the last few years as more and more individuals are getting career conscious. Year 2007 should show an increase in flightattendantjob openings due to the higher replacement needs of airlines. Replacement need arises due to flight attendants leaving career or just leaving the labor force for better airlines. Employment of Flight Attendants is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2007. Growth in population and income is expected to increase the number of airline passengers. Airlines enlarge their capacity by increasing the number and size of planes in operation. More flight attendant job vacancies are bound to arise with acquisition of new aircrafts and also since Federal Aviation Administration safety rules require one attendant for every 50 seats flown. Competition for jobs as Flight Attendants is expected to remain very keen because the number of applicants is expected to greatly exceed the number of job openings. The glamour of the airline industry and the opportunity to travel and meet people attract many applicants. FlightAttendantJob is hugely affected by upswings and downswings in nations economy. Right now the economy is good, air travel is on the increase and the demand right now for new Flight Attendants is great. The opportunity is here. Take action. منقول

Lesson 3 Open House Interview - What to Expect Open House Interviews for an air hostess job. Here we will discuss current practices at a typical Open House interview, although format may vary by airline.
The Open House Interview (also called Open Interview Session or Job Fair) is a general information session for you and gives the airline a chance to screen a large group of potential candidates at one location. Sessions are scheduled after successful completion of an online pre-screening (invited) or may be open to anyone (uninvited). Open House dates are usually published on the airlines website. There is normally a morning and afternoon session. If there is a choice, we recommend scheduling the morning session, since interviewers are freshest and friendliest in the morning. At the Open Interview Session, typically you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire and will be given a short speech about the airline by a flight attendant representative. Each person may be then be required to take a written, multiple-choice test, which includes some customer service questions. Those that pass the test will be asked to remain while the others are excused. The remaining group will be asked to speak or read in front of the group. Usually, the topic deals in some way with customerservice. Resumes or applications are usually not collected at the Open House. Most successful candidates are advised during this session of their advancement to a second interview, although airlines have also been advising some candidates by mail. There are sometimes individual interviews at the Open House session. Your presentation is very important during any Open House. Members should review the sections pertaining to interviewing, and "packaging," i.e. dress, grooming and attitude in the Application Center. In addition, review all interviewquestions and our recommended answers, especially those pertaining to customer service. |

Lesson 4 An invitation to attend a flight attendant interview is in itself quite an achievement, since the airlines receive hundreds of application forms every year. Even though the application process and call for interview is only a minor part of the whole selection process and the actual flight attendant interview and selection process can be quite grueling and nerve wracking if one is not well prepared.Flight Attendant Interview We have compiled some hints and tips for you to educate yourself before attending any flight attendant interview. BEFORE THE INTERVIEW You should be well aware of the exact location of the interview Your route or journey to the flight attendant interviewlocation should be planned well in advance and always give a lead-time of half an hour to cater to any unforeseen emergencies or traffic snarls. Make sure in advance the location of parking places at the interview venue, if possible conduct a reccae to the venue of interview a day before, this will reduce the nerves associated with venturing into an unfamiliar locality (like where to park, look for reception, entrance, exit for the building etc). Dress Code & Grooming Look business like and wear office style smart attire. Be well groomed, with clean tidy hair, make up (if applicable) and clean shoes. You have to feel comfortable with your appearance. Do one final check of your overall appearance prior to leaving home, after arriving at the interview venue and during break times Documentation All documentation required should be laid out in a smart folder and presented to the interviewers when asked for. Documents should be made ready a few days before the flight attendant interview so as to ensure that you have all the necessary certificates and paperwork that you require to take with you. It will give you enough time to find missing copies of certain documents. Research and Preparation Keep abreast of all the information and latest happening pertaining to the airline. Questions pertaining to latest news concerning the airline can be asked to judge your background knowledge as well as interest in the field. A good source for such information is the airline website, it generally has the history and latest news concerning the company. Nerves Feeling nervous during interviewprocess is perfectly normal. Spend some time relaxing on the day prior to your flight attendant interview. Do the things that you like doing. Also get a good night's sleep, to avoid a worn out look. Remember that the recruitment team will make allowances for the fact that people are nervous. Nerves can easily be tackled with prior preparation DURING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS You should carry a warm disposition, welcoming behavior and great appearance as they are crucial in creating the right impression in the mind of recruiter. Befriend other candidates and try to remember their names as there can be some questions about them from recruiter to know about your interpersonal skills, as flight attendant job is more of a team work. Remember to always address people in a friendly and well mannered way. Be yourself in the interview and never try to be someone you are not. Recruitment personnel are highly trained and will spot anyone who tries to impress. Body Language A very vital aspect noticed by the recruiters is the Body language and you must maintain open body language to make you appear welcoming and receptive to the recruitment team and fellow candidates. Team Work & Exercises Airline interviews will generally require you to take part in team work exercises. Ensure that you are open to suggestions and queries by all team members, and that you participate in all discussions and exercises. Never be aggressive and imposing. You should be updated on current affairs and news relating to the aviation industry. Areas of discussion during interviews During the flight attendant interview process you may be asked questions and have to complete exercises on the following subjects: o Team Work o Communication o Customer Service o Safety o Current Affairs o Airline Industry Have examples prepared on the above subjects as the interviewing panel may ask you to give examples of previous experience and / or knowledge on the above. Questions When given an opportunity to ask the recruitment team a question be very clear, logical and straightforward (no beating around the bush). It is always better to think of few questions to ask well in advance. Some questions can throw up answers which can be another question for you from the recruitment team, so be careful while putting forth questions. Questions must be relevant to the company and the job. Avoid asking questions on issues that have been covered during any presentations given to you by the recruitment team. |

Lesson 5 Flight Attendant Job Interview - ErrorsWhen attending a flightattendant job interview, what are the proper responses to these questions?
Tell me why I should select you. Why do you want to be a flight attendant? Why do you want to work for this airline? Answer: When you are put forth a question such as "Tell me why I should select you", it is your job to give a persuasive answer to hire you based on your qualifications. Blow your own trumpet – this is a chance to sell yourself to the company. Give them a good reason to hire your services - impress upon them how reliable, punctual, flexible you are, how you are able to anticipate the needs of others, an essential requirement of any customer service job. Communicate how your positive contributions and performance at your present job will relate to that of the flightattendant position. When asked "Why do you want to be a flight attendant?", be different and creative. Do NOT say that oft repeated run of the mill answer like you want to travel and you like to meet people – that’s the most common answer, and they would have heard that hundreds of times a day! Give an answer that implies that you enjoy giving good customerservice, or that it’s like going to work every day and feeling like you’re on vacation; emphasize your passion for airplanes and flying since that is what you will be actually doing in a flight attendant job, and be creative with your answer! Really dig into what it is that appeals to you about the job, and think about what it is that charms you to the position. For the question "Why do you want to work for this airline?" you first need to know and establish the fact that you already know something about the airline. Go to their website and learn several facts about them, such as any new routes they may be planning, if they have ordered any new airplanes, how many flight attendants they plan to hire this year, or changes in management such as the name of their new Operations Manager or CEO. Then you want to convince them what difference you could bring to their company, giving specific examples of the ways how the company has already impacted your life or how it will in the future. Keep in mind that this is your big chance to persuade them to hire you, so learn all you can about how your background will help you fit into their company’s culture, and don’t be afraid to brag on your accomplishments and assets! Common Errors: During a flight attendant interview, there are a number of factors that can potentially disqualify you from consideration. Here are few of the most common errors: Personalappearance not up to the desired standards. Overbearing, overaggressive, egoistical behavior. Lack of purpose or lack of goal setting. Inability to co-relate personal qualities to flight attendant duties. Unable to relate real-world examples when asked behavioral-typequestions. Lack of enthusiasm - passive or indifferent. Inability to listen to the interviewer or poor grasping power; too focused on how you are going to respond. Making derogatory remarks about your previous employer. Overemphasis and aggressive on compensation. Poor body language. Concerns over relocation. Lack of tact, maturity, courtesy. Evasive, making excuses for unfavorable factors in work history. Inability to maintain a conversation, poor communicationskills. Lack of commitment or direction in thoughts. Failure to ask questions about the flightattendant position. Unable to make a commitment on a training start date. Very little knowledge about the duties and responsibilities of a flight attendant. Persistent "What can you do for me?" attitude. Lack of preparation - no knowledge of the airline, resulting in an inability to ask intelligent questions. |
