A single-engine airplane crashed near the Corona Municipal Airport on:
Tuesday, Jan. 17, injuring two people. A single-engine aircraft taking off from Corona Municipal Airport on Tuesday, Jan. 17, made an emergency landing and crashed, leaving its two occupants with moderate to severe injuries, fire officials say.
The crash was reported to the Corona Fire Department at 10:55 a.m., said spokesman John Deyoe. Firefighters arrived and extricated two people. They were taken to two different trauma centers.
Deyoe did not know whether the injuries were life-threatening.
Marilyn Larson of Norco was driving on West Rincon Street past the airport when she saw the crash.
“The plane went up and did a curve like it was returning to the airport but it did just a big belly flop and it stopped.”
She said she couldn’t hear whether there was engine trouble because her car radio was on.
“It looked like it lost power because it went really high and then went down fast," she said. " There was no fire. It landed flat.”
